Class is in Session: Researching Your Niche
Let’s kick off the series with one of the most important aspects of publishing on KDP—research. Why is research so critical? Imagine trying to drive a car with your eyes closed—that’s what it feels like to dive into KDP without knowing what’s working in the market. Without proper research, you risk putting out books that just don’t sell. But don’t worry, research doesn’t have to be complicated. With the right tools, you can streamline the entire process. That’s why I use Bookbolt for my research. It’s hands down the best tool to help you find profitable niches.
How to Use Bookbolt for KDP Research
Here’s a quick breakdown of my research process using Bookbolt and the KDP Spy plugin:
Find Best-Selling Word Search Books: Start by using the KDP Spy plugin to find the top-selling word search books in your niche. This gives you a snapshot of what’s currently popular, including which themes are trending and how many pages the books typically have.
Analyze Reviews: Next, dive into the reviews of these top sellers. What are customers saying? Are there consistent complaints or praises? These insights are pure gold and can help you identify market gaps where you can create something better.
Keyword Research: Finally, use Bookbolt’s keyword tool to find the best keywords for your book. Keywords are how readers will find your book on Amazon, so nailing this part is crucial for visibility and sales.
Simplicity Sells
Once you’ve done your research and found a solid theme for your word search book, the rest is straightforward. Remember, simplicity sells! Whether you choose themes like mindfulness, stress relief, or something unique like 'small things,' make sure it speaks to a specific audience. You don’t have to overthink it—your research will point you in the right direction.
Your First Assignment
Alright, class, here’s your first assignment to get the ball rolling! I want you to put this into action right away:
Use Bookbolt (or whatever research tool you prefer) to find the top 3 best-selling word search books in any category.
Take note of their themes, the number of pages, and the overall design.
Think of one theme you’d like to use for your own word search book—whether it’s something like positive affirmations, vintage cars, or anything that sparks your interest.
Drop your theme in the comments below or send me a message with your idea!
Ready for the Next Step?
By taking action today, you’re already well on your way to KDP success! In our next session, we’ll dive into formatting your book for KDP, turning that theme into a beautiful, ready-to-publish product. Don’t worry, there’s no grading—just a lot of learning and success ahead!
